Goosebumps DVD Movie Review (2016)

Hey everybody, normally I do movie reviews when the film is still in theaters but because I joined the team a bit late and the film came out on DVD today, I figured why not lets do a review on this awesome movie that is meant for all ages. The film I’m talking about is Goosebumps (note: this film was released into theaters 2015 but I’m titling it as the DVD release year)!

In the film we meet young Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) moving into a house in the suburbs where he meets a lovely young girl by the name of Hannah (Odeya Rush) and her deranged father Mr. Stine (Jack Black). Zach immediately takes interest to Hannah and the two of them sneak out of their houses to go into a run down carnival. Hannah tells Zach this is where she goes when she needs some solitude away from her fathers madness; when the two of them come back to their houses Zach gets an immediate threat from Mr. Stine, says if he is seen with Hannah anymore he will make him wish he was never born. Zach and his new friend from school work on trying to save Hannah from her father when they reveal a collection of books, but these aren’t any books they are books with locks only to find out they are transcripts from the horrifying, magnificent Goosebumps books. When the books locks are broken all hell breaks loose starting with the Abominable Snowman of Pasadena. While Hannah, Zach, and Zach’s Friend Champ (Ryan Lee) are dealing with the Abominable Snowman, another book was released the evil ventriloquist doll Slappy. After capturing the Snowman back into his pages, R.L. Stine (Jack Black), Zach (Dylan Minnette), Hannah (Odeya Rush), and Champ (Ryan Lee) were all met by Slappy the evil doll, threatening to release all of Stine’s monsters and creations, once all of them are released onto the town the team must work in returning all of the creatures, monsters, and creations into their pages or force the town to become filled with chaos. Will the team be able to help R.L.Stine re-capture all of his creations into their pages or will the fail? Find out by renting or buying the film!

The film itself was a really interesting film! It had a great story to bring together all of R. L. Stines books in one movie, the movie is also left open for a sequel which might be in the works soon! I was disappointed in the animating with Slappy the doll, hes meant to be creepy, and diabolical; certainly they got a bit of the diabolicalness down right but not the creepy factor which made me terrified of him when I was a child watching the Goosebumps series. Yes this movie is based off a Book Series with same title as movie, I really do wish we could have gotten more air time of some of the other monsters and creations but perhaps if there really is a sequel in the works then perhaps those monsters and creations will have some air time of their own. I would give this film 4 out of 5 stars! If your a fan of the Goosebumps books or if you are new to the genre and want to be introduced to some of the great creations ever then this film is definitely for you!
