For those of you who haven’t watched the first film Snow White and the Huntsman, go and watch it now because you will not understand a thing I say otherwise when it comes to this film the prequel & sequel to the first film, I had a privilege of attending a free movie screening on Tuesday of this week to the movie The Huntsman Winters War!
In the film we are first introduced again to Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron) when she was first starting out in her evil ways with the magical mirror and her first husband who was King in the south. When Ravenna killed her first husband she requested for her younger sister Freya (Emily Blunt) to move into the castle with her, when Ravenna finds out that Freya is pregnant with a daughter she finds a way to destroy her sisters happiness by burning the room where the baby was. In a grieving rage Freya’s hidden magic was released forcing the room to freeze and everyone in it. Freya then ran away into the deep south turning herself into the Ice Queen, secluding herself off from the world in her ice palace; she demanded her people to go out to the villages and take all the children, any parents who refused to let their children go were executed by the Ice Queens orders. In her kingdom the Ice Queen Freya trained children to become her huntsmen. The two huntsmen she was most pleased with were Eric (Chris Hemsworth) & Sara (Jessica Chastain). There is just only one rule that must never be broken in Freya’s kingdom, never fall in love; if you fall in love you will either be killed or banished. However Eric and Sara fell for each other which forced Freya to build an ice wall, within the ice wall both Eric and Sara saw what Freya wanted them to see. Eric saw the love of his life dying in front of him, and Sara saw him abandoning her.
Years later (during Snow Whites ruling of the kingdom), the Huntsman (Hemsworth) is adding more stones to the fake burial site of his wife Sara. The Huntsman is then met by William (Sam Claflin) telling him that Snow White (Kristen Stewart) is ill, she is going mad with the current deceased Evil Queen Ravenna’s (Theron) magic mirror. Queen Snow White demanded the mirror to be taken out of the kingdom, however the mirror never reached its destination. The Huntsman takes it upon himself to find the missing mirror and take it to its destination. But when Huntsman sees one of Freya’s ice owl spys, spying on their conversation, it becomes a race against time in who will find the magic mirror first. Will the Huntsman find the mirror first? or Will the Ice Queen Freya find the mirror first and release the evil onto the world just like how her older sister did so many years ago? Find out by seeing the film!
Honestly, I thought this prequel/sequel was really good! Especially Liam Neeson doing the narration, I mean come on there can’t be anyone better than Neeson doing an epic narration to get you pumped about whats in store. Another thing that made me really like this movie is Jessica Chastain, yes I’m one of those guys who has a major crush on Chastain. I mean can you blame me, shes hot or at least to me she is! But Chastain’s character I feel like this role was meant for her, she had the right athletic build and right kind of focus that I always imagined her character having ever since they had Chris Hemsworth’s Huntsman describing and mentioning her character in the first film. But as I have said before if you haven’t watched the first film, then this second film will not make any sense to you at all! Although I do have to say, compared to the first film, this one does beat the first film in action wise. Story wise I would have to say the second film wins again because the story had a purpose and meaning! Overall this film was a really great one and I would recommend it to anyone, but I also recommend you watching the first film Snow White and the Huntsman if you haven’t already!
