Shameless (S07E09) “Ouroboros”

Spoilers: Don’t read if you haven’t seen the episode.

Well what a fantastic episode of Shameless this has been! Hurricane Monica makes another surprise return to inadvertently torment the Gallagher family, and I think the phrase “Fuck Monica” is one both the Gallagher’s and viewers can agree upon. The sentiment and emotions echoed on throughout this Shameless episode and proved this hit Showtime series is showing zero sign of slowing the drama down. After a few dull episodes over the week I had no idea Monica returning could brought so much emotions and fulfillment back into the show. Absolutely none of the Gallaghers wanted anything to do with Monica when she showed up at first, not even Frank. The drama she causes tends to have ripple effects that continue on for some time after she inevitably disappears again. After a life of struggling with bipolar and not being the best mother to her children, it’s becoming very clear that we’re about to lose her for good. Her pursuit of Frank seemed pathetic at first. That’s all she seems to do. Show up unannounced and expect everyone to welcome her with open arms. You have to take a step back and think about the ramifications her actions have had on the lives of her children. The Gallagher kids really have the worst parents on the planet, and I’m glad Sierra clocked on to that when she extended the olive branch to Lip. Anyone else thinks Lip was trying to turn Sierra into an idealized version of Monica? With his excessive drinking which he seems to have lost control of again, Lip is just one step closer to turning into a younger, prettier version of Frank.

Monica is back in town purely to try and right her wrongs in her final days alive. We witnessed Frank trying to ditch her several times, but then he collapsed in her arms when he found out she was dying. That was probably the most emotional moment of the season thus far. He always did say Monica was the love of his life. There’s obviously a lot of history between the pair, and of course, many, many children. It’s definitely intriguing to think of how the family will come together to bid adieu to the mother who was never there. Regardless of what everyone thinks of her, they will unite in her death… at least temporarily. Even though she was dying, she still had that Monica sense of humor we all know and love. .

With Monica’s help Debbie got Frannie back from those awful people. After two seasons of rebelling against everything and anything, it finally seems like Debbie is about to calm down and support Frannie…..or not. But not that the season (series?) is almost over the show will not be focusing on Debbie much. I am glad that this plot didn’t drag on any longer. Also, when is Debbie going to stop being a bitch to Sierra? I actually feel bad for Sierra, for such a small character in the show she got alot of shit on her plate. Debbie is now going to be working for Fiona at the laundromat, who seems to be doing good business wise after many (or just Lip) said she couldn’t. My god, Lip has been such a villain this season huh.
Well guess who escaped from prison!? No, not Samantha. Mickey’s back!  He’s on the run, and I’m guessing we’ll get to meet him on the next episode. It sucks for Trevor to be stuck in the middle of Gallovich, but fuck him. He has no right whatsoever telling Ian how to treat Monica, so I’ll be content if he took a lost here. I’m certain he won’t be sticking around for much longer now that Mickey is back on the scene.
‘Ouroboros’ is definitely the best episode of the season so far and I can’t wait to see how the events of this episode plays out next week.
