The Mummy (2017)

Ever since the first remake of The Mummy came out in 1999, the one thought came to everyones minds; When will Hollywood’s film industry remake the Mummy? Well I will say this, this remake is much better than the 1999 version. And Universal Studios has a much bigger plan with their coming monster movies. When Universal Studios saw how well Marvel and DC movies were doing in the box office and how much people loved seeing those heroes coming together to fight a greater evil. Well fans of the old monster movies, Universal Studios has jumped on that train too, its called the Dark Universe. Think of it as a universe with all the legendary and not so legendary monsters joining together in either every film or in some films eventually leading to them all coming together to fight a greater evil. What that evil maybe yet, we are not sure, but this remake of The Mummy is the beginning of that Dark Universe, so its important for you all to see the first entry to understand the rest of the movies coming to the Dark Universe soon.

Although I really have to hand it down to Alex Kurtzman, for this being the beginning of the Dark Universe. He delivered us a film that is definitely done well! Now most people seeing this film may not like the new direction of this remake because of the story being new and fresh and actually being treated as what a remake should be. But let me put your minds at ease; this film standing by itself as a picture to a much bigger plan for these movies delivered very well, the story was very interesting, the gender swap of the Mummy definitely was necessary in order for them to create a better remake.

The main synopsis of the film is: When Nick Morton (Tom Cruise) and Jenny Halsey (Annabelle Wallis) discover the tomb of an ancient princess; princess Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella). Nick becomes cursed but in order for the curse to take hold of him theres one thing he must do first; he must die.

Now with that synopsis it seems interesting right? I will tell you it is incredibly interesting. And I know what a lot of you are thinking, how can any movie now in these days with Tom Cruise in it be interesting when it seems like most characters he plays in films are the exact same person. Well heres the thing, Tom Cruise moves up his acting style to a new level with this film. Tom literally brings life and personality to his character Nick Morton. I was very impressed by his acting in this film, it was definitely an improvement. And another actor everyone was worried about being in the film was Russell Crowe acting as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I will say this, with Russell Crowe acting in this film it was better than the last movies he had acted in for the last years. He definitely brought to life both character’s personalities which is not always easy to do. So to both of these actors I will say it was an improvement in their acting for both.

I really thought Sofia Boutella did a great job as the Mummy, I mean this version of The Mummy it actually made you feel bad for the monster. Because Ahmanet who becomes the Mummy never wanted to go all dark, if her father would’ve kept to his word and made Ahmanet the next ruler to Egypt instead of throwing her aside only because second wife gave birth to a son then none of this would’ve happened. But no, instead poor Ahmanet went to Set (Javier Botet) the god of death for a bargain to make her ruler of Egypt but that backfired and had her mummified. Only, there was a part of the bargain that wasn’t accomplished in ancient Egypt, which was to bring Set into the world of the living with a human host. I wont spoil any major plot details for you guys cause you need to see this film.

Overall this film is definitely a film worth seeing and I recommend this film to everyone! You all need to see this film!

I rate this film 4/5 stars which gives it an A rating!
