This was the season finale written by Michael Narducci and Co-Executive produced by Bethany Rooney. Michael Narducci has moved on to other projects after the season finale. Shall we get started?
How many of you enjoyed the HOLLA?
I will be honest, the show runner, the writers had me hyped at the beginning of the season. I thought this was going to be the one to watch! The story-telling is always top-notch, the episodes are usually on point, character-driven, writing is always exceptional. (I will add with some heavy disagreement in the remainder of season 4 for certain characters.) We were told they’d be using a combination of “Stephen King mythology and biblical stories.” (Remember “IT” what happened? Pennywise the scary clown? What biblical stories?) We get the HOLLA instead. Who was not a scary villain. More like a a greenish-blue blob going all around the room. In fact, they made the pretense for the fans to “BE VERY AFRAID” but in fact as the story went on, the more I started to scratch my head.
We all knew Hope would be the most powerful supernatural being ever on this planet. Eventually, the HOLLA would take possession of her. It makes the most sense. Inserting in that Vincent and Marcel were the ones who originally brought this EVIL to New Orleans. Again, left me saying “Huh?” Why wouldn’t the supernatural being that brought the evil be, Klaus, Elijah, Rebekah, Kol, Freya and Finn (when he was alive?). Or a resurrected enemy of theirs? Placing Marcel and Vincent as the ones holding the bag, bringing the “super scary villain” (WOO HOO) is just insane. We all know that Marcel is allied to Klaus and in love with his sister. Vincent is the regent of NOLA and knows better than to mess with one of the Mikaelson. If they had chosen to do the story the other way it be would be scarier, more fluid and made so much more sense. I found the HOLLA less frightening than any of the season finales before.
How do you justify this?
“Always and forever.
We had a good run.” Beks
Vincent didn’t tell the Mikaelson siblings everything. Um, there is always a catch 22 to the plan.
As part of the solution to get rid of the HOLLA, the answer to “Saving Hope”: is dividing this BIG BAD EVIL SPIRIT into 4 POWERFUL SUPERNATURAL BEINGS. (COUGH The Mikaelson Siblings COUGH). The ending is supposed to be this emotional enriching payoff? This is how the season finale is supposed to end? You separate the existing four Mikaelsons, Klaus, Elijah, Rebekah and Kol? Freya is also included in this, she has to perform the spell with Vincent and she can never go near them ever again. Tell me what happened to “Always and Forever”? Every fiber of their being was built on this co-existence from the very beginning. Their love, their bond, their unwavering loyalty to one another until the end of time.
Everyone got a happy ending in the finale. Almost…Except for Elijah and Hayley. Kol and Davina are getting engaged. He found that huge diamond he had remember? (The one he used for spells?) It was to be made into an engagement ring for Davina. Freya and Keelin reunited. They could not be without each other. Fated as two could be. Destiny would no longer keep them apart. Finally Rebekah would get her “happily ever after” with Marcel. She was always his first choice. No longer bounded by Klaus’ jealously for them. They could be together always and forever. Klaus would be happily reunited with his daughter Hope. His truest redemption. What he and Elijah always wanted, “She (Hope) is your redemption.” “I’ll stop searching for his redemption when I believe there is none left to be found.” – Elijah. I can still hear those words echoing in my head from S1. The bond Elijah and Klaus shared was unlike a regular brotherly bond. They would literally go to the fires of hell for each other. My heart literally broke into itty bitty pieces when Elijah asked his brother to compel him to forget everything and everyone. It would be the only way for Elijah to go on after Hayley and not being able to see his family ever again.
Next To Me.
The three steps of denial:
I believe right now I passed the anger stage and I have reached the grief one. When I watched “The Originals” finale last night, it was like being gutted watching all the Elijah scenes. Anyone, regardless if you are a fan or not, should give this man A HUGE ROUND OF APPLAUSE! He moved you with his words and his actions for his family again, were entirely selfless.
“I can’t stop loving you.” Elijah
“We were doomed.” Elijah
“I could never be what you needed me to be. The best thing I could do for you is disappear.
I love you.” Elijah tells Hayley
“I love you, too.” Hayley tells Elijah
As I told you before what the three steps of denial are. Totally and utter grief today. They the writers/TpTb always seemed to have a hard time giving us Elijah and Hayley. So for me, seeing Elijah not being loved unconditionally by Hayley, really started to piss me off. The turning point for me was after 4×04. I noticed a monumental shift in Hayley’s behavior towards Elijah. I honestly believe this was done intentionally by the writers/TpTb. If they wanted to give us a beautifully written love-story, they would have. They have been holding back on us for a reason unbeknownst to us. They make terrible excuses Elijah is TOXIC, Hayley is TOXIC, the election, feminism. Whatever gets them thru the day. Frankly, I am not buying any of it. It hurts my heart deeply that they have done this to our couple and what they have done to us. Elijah and Hayley are perfect for each other. Well…perfectly flawed and deeply in love. They have so many twin flame parallels from S1 up until this very episode. HOPE (no pun intended) is now that Hayley wakes up and realizes that she needs to find Elijah. She goes to Manosque to be reunited with her one true love. Otherwise, I am grieving today. The show did us wrong in so many ways and for that I have no forgiveness. Can you make amends with us? Well it is up to you now The Originals…
“In the end we’re left infinitely and utterly alone.” – Klaus.
Klaus see Elijah playing in a bar in Manosque, France. He can’t help himself. He must go in and see his brother. He walks by seeing Elijah playing the piano. He looks so happy. Klaus drops a hundred-dollar bill inside his tip glass. Elijah must experience some form of de ja vu, he looks inside the glass, then looks to see the man who dropped the bill in. We see that he doesn’t recognize him. He continues to play on. Klaus realizes Elijah doesn’t recognize him…. that hurts him even more.
Should we have HOPE?
I’ll be totally honest, when next season roles around and if I don’t see Klaus, Elijah, Rebekah, Kol, Freya, Hayley and Hope. (Yes, even Hayley). I will not consider that “The Originals”. I am not down for watching a “Hope and Roman: We Glitter Saga” spin-off or a “Harry Potter & The School of Sorcery Part 2: Welcome To Mystic Falls”. Here’s to hoping we get Haylijah back, Kolvina, Mabekah, Keelin and Klamille. More substance and much more of “The Originals”. I want to watch compelling stories with layered characters. Not this dreck I am hearing rumors about on the internet.
