Quacks premieres

Quacks is about the progress of four young medical pioneers fighting to make a mark in the world and save lives. Set in the 1840s when medical science as we know it was still in its infancy, when doctors were just as likely to kill their patients as cure them, when they experimented on themselves and each other.
The six episodes will follow Robert, a rock-star surgeon whose proudest boast is that he can amputate a limb in a minute and a half;  William, a fellow doctor who’s laughed at for wanting to treat mental illness; and John, an apothecary who nearly kills himself by self-testing the anaesthetic drugs he’s trying to invent.
Tuesdays on BBC Two.
