How did you get the role of Young Cora?
R:    “I pretended to pray and they said that they liked me and I was the chosen one. The nice lady [Jessica Biel] also told me that I looked just like her when she was a little girl. She showed me a picture and I thought that was CRAZY! I mean, how can we look the same and be two different people?! That’s amazing!”
NM: A few weeks after we signed on with her agent (Barbara Garvey, East Coast Talent Agency) we got the request for her to self-tape for the role of Young Cora. We were completely new to this entire process, this was her first theatrical audition, so we were just expecting it to be part of the “learning process.” We were shocked to find out, first, that she was one of the final picks and then, after auditioning again, that she had booked. On set, Jessica Biel told me that she knew from the moment she saw her tape she was the one perfect for the role. I’m no professional, and probably biased, but I also think she’s really good, especially for someone so young. I’ve honestly been shocked at how easily she can access emotion, just by imagining herself in a similar situation to the character she’s portraying. She hasn’t taken a lot of acting classes (1-2 Intro classes) and she’s not a “dramatic” child. She’s more of an “old-soul”… She’s almost 6 and approaches many things like a 70 year old woman… well thought out, rational, and with a lot of common sense. I also think that because her personality is naturally empathetic, she can imagine how she would feel in a situation and access those emotions easily.
How was your first acting role in a television show?
R: “It was good, but it was kinda weird because I wasn’t used to it. I really liked pretending. And it was so cool and we got to stay in a hotel! And after we did the pretending, we got to eat all the cookies we wanted and had cupcakes to take home!”
You seem so natural and relaxed…was it hard to remember your lines, or what to do?
R: “Not at all because I practiced, like, FIVE TIMES. After that, I knew what I was supposed to say, so I just said it. I think I have a good memory and that helps a lot.”
NM:    When she was 3, her preschool teacher told me she thought Raegan might have a photographic memory. Now when it comes to learning lines for an audition, it only takes a couple times before she has all the parts memorized. So even though she had a lot of lines, considering her age at the time (just turned 5), we practiced just enough for her to learn what she was supposed to say. Then she did what she needed to do on set, with the direction they needed her to go for each scene. An extremely proud moment as a parent was after wrapping the bedroom prayer scene. We ended up wrapping earlier than was expected because she was able to take the necessary direction. So many people from the production team, including the director, Antonio Campos, came up to me afterwards to tell me how impressed they were with her. It’s a great feeling to see your child be naturally talented at something they enjoy.
How was your first acting role in a television show?
R:   “It was good, but it was kinda weird because I wasn’t used to it. I really liked
pretending. And it was so cool and we got to stay in a hotel! And after we did
the pretending, we got to eat all the cookies we wanted and had cupcakes to
