So this episode was an interesting one! I’m always glad when they start the episodes where they left off with the last one though and don’t try throwing any gaps in the storyline. And this episode did start where episode 9 left off which is good. I really like how they did the introduction of Brainiac 5, but I will get to that in a little bit. Lets get to the full review.
So for those that remember the ending of episode 9 we saw Reign (Odette Annable) and Kara/Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) have their full out brawl and put Kara in a coma. In this episode we saw Kara trapped in her coma and is trying to escape from it. But because it is Kara’s loft, the one place that her subconscious feels like is the most safe place ever that Kara can be just her. As Kara is in her subconscious she has a visitor by the name of Brainiac-5 (Jesse Rath). Kara and Brainiac-5 both try finding a way to wake her up from the coma but just when Brainiac-5 senses that Kara is ready to wake up, but something is holding her back. He senses it’s fear, but Kara isn’t willing to accept it being fear.
I have to say though Brainiac-5 for this episode is really spot on, I’m really impressed with Jesse Rath’s performance as the character. This version kinda reminds me back in the day when we 90’s kids had Justice League Unlimited animated series and we were introduced to Brainiac-5 in that series. Both versions are very similar in so many ways especially with the interactions between Brainiac-5 and Kara. I really hope that we get to see more of Brainiac-5 in future episodes cause he really was one of the best Brainiac heroes in my opinion.
We also saw in action three members of the Legion of Superheroes from the very, very, very, very, very, very, very far away future. And we also got to see them wear their rings which is an important part of the superhero suit and it also makes me wonder, because we saw Superman’s ring that was similar in his fortress of Solitude way back in what was it, Season 1 or 2 something like that. But it makes me wonder though with the ring that the Legion of Superheroes wear looking exactly similar to what Superman has in his fortress, does this mean that the Justice League somewhere down the line creates the Legion of Superheroes? Could be a possibility that we see that happen in future seasons!
But the way though that Kara wakes up is by accepting her human side back into her life which her subconscious was trying to tell her this whole time that it has missed those times of Kara’s life. It wants that side of her to be back, and because of that Kara was able to wake up and help the Legion out to battle Reign. When Kara gets to Reign; Kara injects Reign with a concentrated dose of kryptonite which forced Reign to retreat this time around. But now with Reign gone in the wind, how long will it be before she returns in a vengeance? Guess we will find out soon!
