This episode, man, this episode is literally a fantastic episode. Not only does it continue problems throughout people’s lives it also brings up great criminal activity examples that we have going on in our world today. I think I have to say that I’m loving how they are going about this series it’s fantastic! Not only do we get things about a superhero getting back into the game but we also get day to day problems.
With this episode we got Jefferson/ Black Lightning (Cress Williams) fighting wither or not to continue the work of Black Lightning. While the city needs him, he feels like he doesn’t need to be the beacon of hope to this city or just doesn’t want to be. Sure it’s a selfish thing to do but every hero gets to be like that every now and then in their lives. But eventually they throw away the happy little life they built and get back into the whole superhero game. And I have to say with this being the second episode, not only does it show the struggle really well, it shows how it affects the loved ones around our hero.
Now we had black on black crime happening in this episode which I had a feeling they would get to that as a part of showing criminal activity that happens even now in our own world. Yes it’s tragic when anyone dies from criminal activity but when it’s something that brings tragedy by making a child an orphan it creates scars that never heal. Sad though, that’s exactly what happened with Lawanda (Tracey Bonner) she was killed by video tapping Lala (William Catlett) but did a smart move kept her cell phone recording in her car to tape the crime. Sadly that doesn’t happen in the real world all the time, which is why criminals in reality always get away with the crimes.
I have to say though, Gambi (James Remar) he really is an interesting character. Being a tech wiz for Black Lightning and creating his suit. I mean this character is awesome, he literally reminds me of an older version of Jeremy Jordan’s Winn! But lets hope nothing bad happens to Gambi, because right now, him and Black Lightning are my two favorite characters in the series. But note I said so far! But so far, this character is interesting and I would like to know more about this character further into the series!
Now I have to say with this being now two great episodes that the series has had, I really hope that it stays that way for the rest of the episodes, cause it would be a let down if they just chose to just throw everything to chance after two amazing episodes. It really would, but we wont be able to know until the other episodes are revealed to us every single week! But we shall see and I have to be honest, Jefferson (Cress Williams) choosing to make a change to become Black Lightning once again really is a great choice cause he will now be able to be principal by day, superhero by night it’s going to be interesting ride this season!
