MacGyver (S02E17) "Bear Trap + Mob Boss"

It never fails, each episode starts with an action packed sequence, it is something we have all come to depend on and we are never disappointed. Their latest conquest has them in a very perilous situation, entering the very toxic grounds of Chernobyl.

Now that Matty’s (Meredith Eaton) secret has been exposed a delicate situation has been presented to MacGyver (Lucas Till). Matty doesn’t do anything on accident, everything seems to be well calculated and thought out. If she was investigating MacGyver’s father all this time there is definitely a method behind the madness. Due to some timely advice from Jack, now is not the time to confront the boss lady.

Bozer (Justin Hires) has been left behind once again, while MacGyver, Jack (George Eads) and Riley (Tristin Mays) contend with their latest target. Sergei (David Piggott), who is on the run from the Ukrainian mob. Due to some unforeseen circumstances the trio find their way into radioactive territory. Chernobyl seems like the ideal place for sinister secrets and unearthly dangers.

I must say that they did an amazing job portraying Chernobyl. The desolate wasteland is foreboding and sure to be unforgiving. It was almost comical when the team stumbles upon a group of teens who are using Chernobyl as their own personal apocalyptic paradise. This finding also gives them a lead into the whereabouts of Sergei, exposing a new danger. The sales and trafficking of toxic waste for dirty bombs.

Matty has her sights set on Bozer, recruiting him to find out who broke into her house. You cannot help but think this is another tactic to get a very paranoid Bozer to come clean with the truth, but it is not his truth to be told. Matty knows more than she’s letting on, and it wouldn’t be surprising to know that she was one step ahead of them the whole time. These underlying secrets are sure to add more conflict between the team.

Each episode we watch the team consistently beat the odds, due to some quick thinking and out of the box revelations. They all mesh well together, and it would be a shame to see their relationships suffer because of these secrets. As the episode comes to a close and another crisis is averted, it feels as though something is about to break and it’s not going to be pleasant when it all comes out. Which it will in due time.

Radioactive free and reveling in a job well done, something big is coming just beyond the horizon. I have a feeling no one will be left unscathed and it will change the dynamics within the team. We will just have to wait and see.

MacGyver is back on Friday, March 30th with a new episode airing on CBS at 8/7c.
