So this episode literally brought to us a serious topic that I’m sure will be brought up a lot more times in the future of the series. But I will get to that in a little bit; but in this serious topic they also brought in how superheroes especially a super family deal with all of the certain struggles that it takes not to use their powers in a bad way. There were some good points and I will try to touch on to them.
So in this episode we had a huge topic that is a huge problem with most police forces to this day. The topic I’m talking about is police corruption; I mean sure in this series the corruption had a push because of an agency. But in a lot of police officers and detectives the corruption really takes is one little push to happen. And I’m glad that they have brought this real event to the superhero series, I mean yes we’ve seen it in Arrow, and in The Flash, but the series doesn’t connect with those series’s so with a series that is going on its own to reveal corruption is a really big jump. Especially when police corruption is happening in our very own cities in our real world. It just shows how much real world problems they are trying to add into the series which is smart.
In this episode we had our hero Jefferson/Black Lightning (Cress Williams) arrested over false accusations. Which isn’t a great thing to happen, what if there would be crime that happened while he was behind bars? I mean sure theres Anissa/Thunder (Nafessa Williams) that could’ve taken care of business but it wouldn’t be the same without having Black Lightning on the streets protecting. Granted that everyone knew the charges were false, even our great Inspector Henderson (Damon Gupton) knew the charges were false which made him do his inspecting around the precinct to find out which egg was really rotten. Now of course we know once a police officer who goes attacking the situation of corruption within a precinct it wont look good for him especially when your only attacking it at one or two sources. Cause those cops could always have connections that help them get free. Will that happen on here guess we will have to wait and see.
Now I thought it was really smart how Gambi (James Remar) created the hologram to try to justify to the agency that Jefferson was not Black Lightning and that their accusations were truly false. Now will that get Jefferson out of the agencies eye sight, of course not. It’s going to take a whole lot more to get the agency to back off from Jefferson and his family. Which I’m really curious to see how they will focus on that when the time comes right, it might even be something they target on season 2 since the series just got renewed a couple days ago. But all in good time I suppose!
We also saw our traitor, Kara (Skye P. Marshall) try to find more subjects for the super testing to keep them on cryo like the others. I really hate that she turned out to be the traitor who is coming to the agency to report to them. I mean sure someone needed to, but why the vice principal who has been a friend to Jefferson ever since the beginning of the series. It’s like if Jefferson finds out he’s going to have to show a lot of that self control to not electrify Kara!
Of course Henderson, because he helped bring down some of the corruption in the police force; Henderson got a promotion to assistant chief captain which is a huge promotion and lets hope he stays true to his promise and brings down the rest of the corruption in the police force.
I’m really curious to see what the next episodes bring to us in the coming weeks!
