Holy Crap guys, this season finale episode literally tops last season’s in so many levels. For instance we saw how the series jumps into Season 4 with the ending moments of this episode but I’m going to get to that in a little while, we have a whole lot that we need to discuss and review about in this episode cause there were literally so many good parts in the episode; lets get to this review!
So with this episode, we saw a noble sacrifice brought on by Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) to buy the Legends some time to run away from Mallus (John Noble) who was released from his time prison by the Legends, cause they thought it would be the best idea in order to defeat the demon. I have to say with all the times from Season 1 to now in Season 3, we’ve seen Rip try sacrificing himself for this power team so many ways and always not fully succeed. But it seemed like this time it did succeed that he finally got the noble sacrifice that he’s always been wanting to have done so he can join his family in the afterlife. I mean when he tried suicide in Season 1 I was like no way, Season 2 he tried a form of sacrifice that wasn’t noble and I was like nah he ain’t gonna die, in Season 3 with him sacrificing himself with Mallus, I’m just like, what just happened? I’m sure a lot of people were like that too, but question is, is Rip really dead? Or will he be back in some magical or supernatural kind of way? We will find out in Season 4!
Now the Legends had to figure out a place to hide and fast before Mallus regained his strength after being blasted with that big time detonation. The Legends chose the old west in South Dakota, which fun fact is exactly were Jonah Hex (Johnathan Schaech) ends up after defeating Trumbol in the comics and becomes sheriff of the town to protect all southern and western people of the new United States until he gets bored that is. And just like in the comics Jonah Hex was there in that city which I have to admit I did geek out a bit when they revealed he was there as sheriff. We also saw a bit of a spark between Zari (Tala Ashe) and Jonah Hex in this episode which I found it to be interesting; but didn’t surprise me all that much though cause you have to remember, Jonah Hex was in love with a Native American and had a son with her until she and his boy was killed by Trumbol all those years ago.
When the Legends tried hiding, it didn’t work, Mallus used his evil to send Black Beard (Jonathan Cake), Freydis the Viking Princess (Katia Winter), and Julius Caesar (Simon Merrells) to make a bargain with the Legends but instead gave them a time limit. Amaya (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) learns about how her ancestors used to totems to capture Mallus the first time around. And so with new totem barer’s of Amaya the animal totem, Zari the wind totem, Nate (Nick Zano) the earth totem, Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) the water totem, Mick/Heatwave (Dominic Purcell) the fire totem, and Sara (Caity Lotz) the death totem; the try channeling their energies to create a powerful force that would destroy Mallus this time around. Of course it didn’t work the first time around especially with Nate continuously thinking Voltron which made me laugh just thinking that Voltron would show up and destroy Mallus; although I wonder who would’ve been the black lion of Voltron makes you think really. But the second time around it was a success with Nate thinking of a gigantic Beebo (Ben Diskin) which was even more hilarious. Just seeing a giant fur ball childs toy controlled by all six of the totem barer’s. I don’t think I have laughed at such an epic fight scene in like ever. That was truly entertaining to see a giant Beebo attack this scary demonic figure.
We also saw Jax (Franz Drameh) come back for only this episode, and its revealed he’s created a family of his own during his time away from the Legends. Which to him has been 5 years. But it was good to see him back for this episode even if it might be his last but you never really know. Now it seems like Jes Macallan who plays our dearly loved Ava; will be placed up to series regular, with the actress now brought to series regular it makes you wonder will Ava just been cleaning up all the anachronisms that the Legends left for the Time Bureau or will Ava be joining the Legends in some of their quests for next season while in the hands of John Constantine (Matt Ryan).
Which brings me to my next point, with the reveal of the final moments of the episode we had Constantine throw down a huge reveal to our Legends. Sara’s plan to release Mallus from his prison has now unleashed a whole lot of demons from their cages. Now when we say cages, I’m pretty sure we mean their dormitories within Hell. Which I have to say opens the door to so many possibilities that could happen in Season 4. We know that Constantine in joining the Legends, but now we have a clearer picture in why he’s joining the Legends. With all these demons now roaming out of Hell, its going to be a interesting journey for our Legends to have the great demonologist, exorcist, and master oh sorry petty dabbler of the dark arts to help them get these demons back into Hell. And I really have to wonder if Nargul is going to be one of those demons that has escaped, if so Season 4 is going to be an emotional roller coaster for Constantine and it could help him rescue Astra from Hell. But we all have to wait until September or October for us to get more info on Season 4 when it airs to all of us. This season has been a fun, fun, fun ride that opened us all now to Demon City for Season 4!
See you all for Season 4 in Fall 2018!
