Gotham (S04E20) “A Dark Knight: That Old Corpse”

The King is dead, long live the King! Last night we saw the true insanity of Jeremiah (Cameron Monaghan) and it was SPECTACULAR.

Clowns in Town

I’ve been both excited and nervous since we saw both the death of Jerome last week. The introduction of his twin Jeremiah as the true Joker was mind-blowing but not knowing anything about the character it was a big question mark. I love Monaghan and wanted more of him on the show, but with the insanity gas having been unleashed on Jeremiah – would it still be the same old Jerome in truth? Turns out the answer is a resounding no.

In a twisting series of events, we began to see the Joker as he’ll now be played. The Joker will not be the chaotic Heath Ledger/Jerome type – but instead, a cold hard psychopath. I love all the subtleties that Monaghan brought to differentiate the two characters. I’m intrigued by the different types of insanity shown here and can’t wait to see what damage Jeremiah does.

This week the spotlight was on the twins through most of the episode. We saw a quick peek at Lee and Riddler (anyone else quickly falling in love with them together?) and then, an even quicker check in with Penguin and Butch. It now looks as though most of our characters are paired up as we head into the season finale. I’m really hoping we see more Bat/Cat action! I love Bruce and Selina together.

Gotham has set us up for one heck of a rough ride on this season-ending arc. With just two episodes left, I’m once again praying for renewal so that we aren’t left hanging! The insanity is just getting started!

Gotham is next on May 11th and 8/7c
