Klaus was on a rampage. Rightfully so, he’s lost Elijah and now Hayley. Looks like there is no turning back… The episode was written by Kyle Arrington and Beau DeMayo. Directed by Julie Plec and Scott Dandorf.
Mardi Gras always brings everyone together. The chaos can also tear this town apart.
I thought the underlying plot was based on Stephen King novels like “IT” and Biblical themes. Boy, I guess I was wrong about that… Where did the Nazi’s come from? I mean really, who thought of such tomfoolery, the Nazis?
There must be a connection to all of this. So, let’s connect the dots, shall we?
The List of Suspects:
Antoinette (Jaime Murray) aka “Slim Shady”. (French origin. Okay, she has Elijah under her siren call. Elijah has no concept of reality, of what his real family means to him. Including Hayley and Hope. All the sacrifices he has made in the name of love and happiness. I have a feeling “Slim Shady” is dosing him with high levels of oxytocin. Working to her advantage of course.)
Declan (Torrance Coombs) (So, Original, named after Declan DeBarra, shout out to one of the coolest writers ever! Also, a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Where is Hayley? Who has her? What have they done with her, huh, Declan.)
REJ. (Jedidiah Goodacre) (Roman Edward Jacob. Yes, The ‘Twilight’ guy. He is enticing Hope. It’s all a trap. Working through the daughter to get to the father… Both the most powerful supernatural beings ever, I might add.)
Colette. (Malone Thomas) (I’m suspicious of her as well. Nothing is what it seems anymore. This is the last season. They will go out guns blazing. Watch. She could be connected to this “End the Mikaelsons plan”. A relative of Antoinette, Declan, REJ, Colette and the rest?)
Ivy. (Shiva Kalaiselvan) (This witch is nothing but trouble. Who is she anyway? How does Vincent know her? She came out of nowhere. Calling Hope, the death to New Orleans. Judging Klaus too? A witch powerful enough to break a powerful cloaking spell…)?
Vincent. (Yusuf Gatewood) (That’s right folks. I think Yusuf is a phenomenal actor but is he is spouting the same nonsense. “Your niece might be the devil in disguise.” to all people Freya. Vincent could also break a powerful cloaking spell if he felt the witches were being threatened…)
We start off the episode off, everyone is celebrating Mardi Gras. That happiness doesn’t last too long. Hayley (Phoebe J. Tonkin) is missing. The Mikaelsons are mad as hell and not taking it anymore.
Klaus is on a rampage, slow down baby.
I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen Klaus (Joseph Morgan) this upset. Between losing Elijah (Daniel J. Gillies) and now Hayley (Phoebe J. Tonkin). He’s not doing well at all. One could say, he’s on the brink of madness… “Our little family reunion would cause hellfire!” – Klaus. Even when Klaus is around Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), his son for all intents and purposes. Klaus insults him by bringing up Beks. Hey, Klaus, we know you are hurting. Marcel is just telling him like it is because he is family. Believe me, if you weren’t, your head be on a spike.
Klaus and Marcel are trading barbs. “Stop being a d*** to everyone else. I actually care about Hayley too.” – Marcel says Klaus
“We are here.”- Klaus tells Marcel (They must have arrived at the place where Hayley was captive.)
“Wolfsbane and vervain.” – Marcel tells Klaus
“She was here.” – Klaus says to Marcel
We have a list of suspects. Are you thinking about who it could be?
Meanwhile, Josh (Stephen Krueger) is walking in the woods. Marcel wants Klaus out of town ASAP. Klaus hold Josh by the throat!
“And here I thought we were friends.” – Klaus says to Josh
“I call it gentle encouragement.” – Klaus says to Josh
Ah! There is a method to Klaus’ madness. He is taking a prisoner from each supernatural faction. Smart thinking! He’s making them draw a salt circle around themselves. Klaus has taken, Colette, Sassi, and Josh. Out of nowhere, we see Marcel! Don’t take that Bullcaca! He is choking them. OMG! Witches and vamps? “Get there and find her!” Marcel is yelling. They always say like “father like son”. (Klaus and Marcel). I did notice that Greta chic wasn’t in the slightest worried about finding Hayley at all. She is on my suspect list. Can you imagine the enormity of the situation once Elijah gets his memories back, he will go full on “Red Door” to find Hayley! They think they have seen the worst. They haven’t seen anything yet. I must add I don’t trust this Ivy (Shiva Kalaiselvan) chic, at all. She heard all wild tales about Vincent. How he got out of the dark magic. His wife didn’t. Ivy tells Vincent a sob story about her life and her ex-husband. I don’t believe it. Evil finds evil. So, unless the HOLLA is still inside one of them. They could be intermingling the stories… She goes on to reading more into Klaus.
“Battle, Cunning, Lost. Klaus is grieving desperately. He is playing the right game right now.” –
Ivy… (She knows something and she’s not saying. Did she do the locator spell to find Hayley?)
Aunt Freya and Hope.
I have to say I was taken aback when Freya is telling Hope that you need for my Mom to die. Why? Why would Hayley need to die? Is it that she is not a blood Mikaelson? She doesn’t fit into the “Always and Forever” plan? Freya, explain to me, why? You know that Hope, Elijah (When OG Elijah returns) and Klaus will never go for this. I am worried because Hope is so dangerous. There is no telling what she might do. She tried creating her own “hybrid army”. She is doing all these “locator spells”. You don’t think she won’t try and raise the dead, Auntie Freya to get help? Think again.
Elijah vs. Marcel: Nothing compares to you.
“All of this is for my daughter. They took Hayley by force. Do your job and deliver your next message.” – Klaus to Marcel
Klaus is in so much pain. I haven’t seen him this way honestly since Camille (Leah Marie Pipes) died. A few days ago, he loses his moral compass to life, his brother, Elijah (Daniel J. Gillies). If that was not painful and heart wrenching enough. Now, he loses his daughter’s mother, Hayley (Phoebe J. Tonkin).
Plus, you could never really compare Elijah and Marcel. They are two different people from different ends of the spectrum. Marcel is trying to bring Klaus back to reality. This is exactly what Elijah would do too! (Isn’t it ironic?)
“He knew! Okay, Elijah knew who he was, and he still told me to leave. I begged him. He didn’t want anything to do with any of us. He’s gone, Marcellus. He’s gone.” – Klaus tells Marcel. Problem is Elijah really didn’t know. Otherwise, if he did. Elijah would have come back. This is not the Elijah we all knew and loved. This was Pod Elijah. He was a shell of the Elijah that Klaus loved.
What in Good Gawd’s Name?
Do we blame a child for possibly endangering their mother and possibly entire families lives? Hope (Danielle Rose Russell), do you feel the least bit guilty that your Mom is missing and it’s your fault? You could have put your Dad, Aunts and Uncles lives all in danger? When they sent “Per your request” with a piece of Hayley’s skin with the crescent mark. I nearly lost my shizzle. “Men at Work” song “Who Can It Be Now?”. (Please Hayley, don’t be dead.) Meanwhile, Vincent has wishes to be buried. Klaus is cold blooded as ever! Taking a head off with a chain! We have “Slim Shady” and family adding in Ivy now. She is rallying all the supernatural factions behind her. (A war brewing?) AND it was just like that. “War has been declared on our people.” ANVIL DROPPED! These suspects are on the list.
I’m a Risk-Taker.
REJ climbing in Hope’s window. He thinks he’s so cool. So, slick. “Oh, I’m terrified. But I’m kind of a risk-taker.” Roman is NOT our friend! He’s our enemy, baby. Have you not been reading my reviews, Hope? Why are you telling REJ everything still? I love you kid. Don’t tell him anything anymore. But NO, don’t listen to me. Hope tells REJ “No sign of her Mom.”
“All the witches think I am going to burn the city.” Hope
Thankfully, Auntie Freya walked in at just the right time. You saved us all. REJ sparkles into the night. (Hope, he is the enemy! Fine tune your Spidey senses.)
Nazi Vampires and Werewolves? What happened to the HOLLA?
“Hayley ain’t going to stand down for too long. Klaus, I ain’t going to do any magic for you. I thought you were a better man. No more. The witches are done being on call for you. All you know how to do is use and abuse. You treat us like we’re pawns. Like we’re pawns in your family’s endless self-defeating schemes. No more. But congrats. You made it back to the top of the food chain.” Vincent says to Klaus. Did he just declare war? Oh, no he didn’t. Watch yourself, Vincent. Being the regent of NOLA is can be bad for your health. You’ve gotten too cocky. Add Vincent to our list. Check and mate.
The show ends. We see a coin. Can you believe it has a Nazi symbol on it! “These cultists.” – Klaus says
“I thought I left this long behind.” – Klaus
(No, my brother you didn’t. Just keep on adding these enemies to the never-ending list.)
The Originals (0504) ‘Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea’ Thoughts:
- How incredibly disrespectful is that Hayley Marshall (Phoebe J. Tonkin) was demoted to “Guest Star” on a show where she has been a “Reoccurring Cast Member” for 4 seasons. Couldn’t you have just left it alone? What is the harm in it, seriously?
- We are now 4 episodes in and have only seen Elijah Mikaelson (Daniel J. Gillies) in 1 episode. What kind of sorcery is this?
- Klaus: “Perhaps your royal status has wilted along with your marital prospects.”
Klaus: “If your assistance requires a psychological evaluation, allow me to make this easy for you. Psychopath on a mission, no time for chit-chat.”
