Timeless (S02E08) “The Day Reagan Was Shot”

The episode, despite its title, is all about Agent Denise Christopher (Sakina Jaffrey & Karen David as a younger Denise) and I am for every single second of it. Written by Lauren Greer and Arika Lisanne Mittman, this episode has me in tears of joy just before its 43 minutes comes to an end. Rationally, I know there is only so much character development a show can produce per episode, but I feel like this is the background story we didn’t realize we needed to know about Denise. Every sliver of information invigorates the story further and simultaneously produces more questions at the same time.

Even Flynn (Goran Višnjić) proves he isn’t done opening new doors for us; behind each one hides tidbits of Lucy (Abigail Spencer) knowledge, and in the doing, revealing more and more about his not-so-sinister self. I feel as though Season 1 hosted the devil on his shoulder, while Season 2 has gifted us with the angelic counterpart. He hits the nail on the head this week with some sound advice for Christopher, reminding her, or rather imploring her to consider that there are times when one must put family first, even when the fate of the world hangs in the balance.

#Riya – YEAHHHHH!!! Am I slightly biased? Perhaps, but that’s only because this couple is so very extra. At the beginning of the episode, I just want to shake Rufus (Malcolm Barrett) right out of his fidgety state. Lucy’s comment was ON POINT when she said he was acting like a Real Housewife. In true Rufus form, he finds a way to snap out of and by the end of the episode I want to kiss them both. Finally, he sees past Jiya’s (Claudia Doumit) gift and into a world that fully includes her.

#Garcy – I don’t know about everyone else, but I can taste the tension between these two. This episode delves a bit deeper into the mystery of the journal, but Flynn isn’t giving much up. One thing he can’t hide is his admiration (or more) for her. He tells her they will both have to wait and see what happens, but it’s in such a way that makes me think he knows something else he isn’t telling Lucy.

#TheLogans? – Oh boy. Or girl? I’m just gonna leave that one right there.

This week Lucy reminds us that “Every day we make decisions… go left, go right…” and sometimes they can end up meaning the world to us. She reminds us to follow our hearts and live our truth. Now, we don’t all have a glimmer of hope to look forward to like Denise did, but we all have hard choices to make along our path, following your heart might, in fact, be the right one.

To Sony & NBC: That being said. PLEASE RENEW TIMELESS. I know you’re waiting until after the final episodes, but you know what the right call is!
