Tonight’s episode was written by Julie Plec and Bianca Sams. It was directed by Carl Seaton.
Where does one even begin?
Wouldn’t you know it, Elijah (Daniel J. Gillies) and “Slim Shady” aka Antoinette (Jaime Murray) both show up in New Orleans! They are staying at Lucien’s old penthouse. Where an army of Greta’s followers, more like a cult has gathered. They are there to pay respects to her. (Her mother was a vampire-Nazi killing psycho?) The best is yet to come! Klaus shows up. He starts killing. He gets to Elijah and snaps his neck. Klaus then proceeds to take a lethal bite out of “Slim Shady’s” neck! Klaus you are my hero.
I wasn’t too happy with Ivy.
It’s bad enough, I’m am questioning her motives. Ivy (Shiva Kalaiselvan) decides to try and stop Klaus from going to his daughter’s mother funeral? He needs to be there to support her. Ivy shows Klaus an old grimoire. It talks about all these prophecies. (Blood raining from the sky, fire, these weird drawings…) She literally is trying to hold Klaus back with her magic. Ivy you have overstayed your welcome, it’s time for you to go.
Hayley to Elijah: [smiles] “If I died and someone threw a party, I would be so pissed.”
What a somber way to start off. Hope (Danielle Rose-Russell) is mourning the death of her mother. In typical NOLA funeral style, they celebrate a person’s death like a party. They parade Hayley’s coffin down the main street filled with flowers on top.
I believe knowing she saved her littlest wolf from death Hayley (Phoebe J. Tonkin) is smiling down from the heavens today. Auntie Freya (Riley Volekel) is going to work her magic and astral-project Klaus (Joseph Morgan) so he can be besides Hope in the funeral procession. The HOLLA and the dark magic that can destroy them if Klaus went in person. This cannot happen on such a somber day.
Instead we get a rogue band of Nazi killing vampires looking for revenge. They put a damper on everything. Can we not even have peace for one day?
First Born Curse: Rears it’s ugly head out of nowhere.
Sometimes, you just must ask the right questions.
I was chatting with a few friends of mine. (Shout out to Rose and Meivis!) there is a huge plot hole inconsistency. The Season 3 finale, “Ashes to Ashes”. The question we posed was simple: “How could the first-born curse still be happening, if Dahlia forgave Ester?” The only reason why it was done to begin with was because Dahlia (Claudia Black) asked Ester (Alice Evans) to go with her, and Ester said “NO.” (The first-time). This time Ester went to be with her sister Dahlia. Then Ester asked Elijah to stab her and that stopped the spell. That is why we saw the white oak, which like snow floating all around. This new grimoire found with pictures and the words, FIRST BORN CURSE, at the bottom. It doesn’t make any sense. Which means it can be stopped.
Klaus turned down Elijah’s offers to regain his memories in exchange for Slim Shady’s safety. We all know this is not the way things work on “The Originals”. Someone is always going to be betrayed or get hurt in the process. Never minding their own business and fearful of what lied ahead, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) and Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) decided to take it upon themselves. They certainly didn’t want Elijah becoming a martyr to these fanatics. By allowing “Slim Shady” aka Antoinette to die would only push him farther away. And to be honest, they weren’t wrong about this. It certainly didn’t make ME watch the return of Elijah’s memories and Elijah’s emotions – any less heart wrenching.
The Originals (S05E07) “God’s Gonna Trouble the Water” Musings:
· I love how much Freya (Riley Volekel) has stepped up and become a positive woman figure in Hope’s life. She really needs that. Someone who understands her.
· My heart broke for Klaus and Elijah. They have both lost someone who had an immense impact on their lives. RIP Hayley Marshall-Mikaelson.
· The next episode enters Elijah’s mind. I hope that his siblings can save him.
