Alright Guys and Gals, first off, welcome back after what seemed like eternity of a wait for our next season to premiere but it finally happened and it seems like a lot of things are gonna be changing, relationships will be changing, Jennifer (China McClain) will be changing, but I’ll get to that in a little bit, a lot of things are changing wither its better or worse we will have to wait and see! But Second off lets get to this review so you all can enjoy it!
Okay so in this episode it begins pretty much where it left off but showing the consequences of everything. I guess thats why they call this the Book of Consequences Chapter One, after all everyone is leading to facing the music or consequences in this episode. No one will be left out, I’m just kinda disappointed that they had to bring in a new reverend, because we all know that this new reverend he will be around for a while but eventually something is going to lead to his demise just like the last one. But I hope not though, but you never know it could turn out to be that way.
We also had two subjects majorly brought into light in this episode which I’m not going to lie ever since of certain major events that have happened in our own world, they still are big subjects to touch on and I feel like these two subjects are going to be touched on a whole lot during this season, just like how racism was a huge topic that was touched on in last season. This season seems to be going in the way of police brutality against unarmed men and women and black lives matter. Like I said two big subjects that were touched on in this episode and might lead to being touched on more throughout the season. The police brutality was the easy part in the episode when they had reports of “Green Light Babies” being gunned down by the police and others all because they thought they were a threat, but in the public’s eyes the African Americans and Americans in general are seeing it as police brutality, which we all know in a lot of cities in the United States it’s a huge thing that is touched on in the news a lot because theres so many police officers that are being driven down the wrong path and so they kill all these unarmed people due to that lack of true leadership. And its because of that lack of true leadership that all these police are able to get away with such horrific crimes, like rape, murder, racism, and many more things, but in Black Lightning’s world it’s the murder part which Henderson (Damon Gupton) was hoping to get rid of in the department to make sure that his officers don’t kill unarmed people even if they are gifted.
The other thing that was touched on just lightly was when the new reverend was talking about how the boy Issa (Myles Truitt) was gunned down only because he was a “Green Light Baby” and that subject was ‘Black Lives Matter’ which is a ridiculous saying because all lives matter but in this world I understand where they are coming from because in Black Lightning’s world if you are an African American, you are seen as a criminal no matter what. Because racism is still very much alive in that world, which is why this episode chose to touch a little bit on Black Lives Matter. Yes I do feel like this subject will be touched on a lot during the season especially if they keep it as dark as they have been with the beginning of this second season. But we will have to wait and see!
Now I do like that Gamby (James Remar) is still looking to help out members of the Pierce family no matter what or how he can. He’s such an awesome guy and I really hope he stays alive for a very long time in the series. He’s such an awesome character and I can see that there will definitely be more character development with him this season or at least I hope there is. But we will have to wait and see.
Now Jennifer (China McClain) she was literally having a lot of issues this episode. Like we saw her how she’s sleeping with her energy just going haywire and creating energy orbs all around her. Just how long does the family think they can keep Jennifer a secret? I mean all that it will take is Jennifer screwing up one of these times around her friend and her friend records her and calls her the freak you know. I’m sure it will happen, but I have a theory as to why Jennifer is being like this though. You see Lynn (Christine Adams) in last season said that Jennifer’s powers were pure energy which means shes like a battery, if you overload a battery what happens? Too much energy and the battery either needs to release it all at once or quite quickly or the battery explodes. And I feel like thats what’s happening with Jennifer that she’s literally gaining during the day way too much energy and she’s not able to release it normally which would be to release a lightning strike every now and then and instead she’s bottling it up and because her powers are like the source of a battery that battery needs to release that access energy otherwise kaboom. And we all don’t want that so next step for Jennifer would be try to find ways to rid herself of that energy that way shes not floating in her room every night when shes sleeping. Maybe Gamby will make some cool gadget that will help her that would be cool! We will have to wait and find out!
And Henderson, poor Henderson (Damon Gupton) he had to tell Jefferson (Cress Williams) that he knew about Jefferson being Black Lightning, and now they’re relationship will change dramatically, but will Henderson stay silent or will he tell everybody? Guess we will find out soon!
