Welcome Back my readers for a season opener and boy was it a really good season opener this time around. I’m here to review today Season 7 Episode 1 of Arrow and we got a lot to discuss and some theories that I would love to throw out there too about the season! So lets get to the review!
Okay so the episode brought us both what glimpses of the future and brought us events of the present and brought us a recurring nightmare that Oliver (Stephen Amell) has while stuck in prison. Now lets get to things in a deeper analyzing, most of the episode was focused on Oliver’s prison life and what he’s doing in order to survive; now back in last season we saw Oliver get taken to prison due to a deal he made with that FBI agent, but how long do we really see that happening? I honestly see it happening for at least three episodes for the max, but I could be wrong the only way to know is to keep watching. Oliver has been in prison for what it seems is quite a while especially seeing that beard that has grown out. Which I have to say is really impressive, to see the Green Arrow comics to finally come into play one way or another is really really impressive. It took a while for them to dive into the comics, which they always have one way or another; wither it was because of a scene that they took straight from the comics or a short storyline arc that they told they always try making comic book readers who watch Arrow happy while making the new fans who only know of Arrow happy as well.
I know we all wish it was the Green Arrow goatee, but I have a feeling that it will get there eventually. After all Oliver can’t go to shave his beard into a goatee in prison he would have to do that kind of thing when he got out of prison. I mean have you seen the guys in that prison that he’s in? They are brutal people, and some of them are villains we haven’t even seen since seasons 2,3, or 5. Like for instance Ben Turner aka Bronze Tiger (Micheal Jai White) which we last saw helping Amanda Waller in her Suicide Squad task force in Season 3 I believe being lead by at the time Lyla (Audrey Marie Anderson) and Diggle (David Ramsey). We also saw Danny Brickwell aka Brick (Vinnie Jones) who was put into prison by Oliver/Green Arrow in the first place in Season 3 which he tried taking over the city when Oliver was away healing from his wounds with that fight over Ra’s Al Ghul but like I said that was the last time we saw him until now! Another familiar face from Season 5, was Derek Sampson (Cody Runnels) which last time we saw him in Season 5 he was exposed and re-animated by a drug called Stardust. All these familiar faces are now in the same place as Oliver and all of them are trying to intimidate Oliver but I think Oliver is not really getting intimidated by them though because he’s faced far more challenges than them in his life like being trapped on that island for 5 years and then having so many people give him a hard time as Green Arrow for 5 or more years I think he’s gotten to the point that no one can intimidate him.
Now we also got in this episode the beginning trend of the new flashback well not flash back more like flash forward scenes because it’s dated actually in the future of the series. Now we saw an adult version of William (Ben Lewis) heading to the island that he lost his mother and got united with his father Oliver; the reason for the venture to the island is unknown really, all what they revealed so far is that he went to the island in search of Roy Harper (Colton Haynes) possibly for some kind of mission. I am finding it weird though that William in these flash forward scenes does not have Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) with him, especially if it’s William going in search of Roy because Felicity knows Roy. So it makes you wonder which comes to one of my theories that in the flash forward scenes William is going to reveal that Felicity died whatever amount of years ago. Another theory that I have is what if it’s Diaz (Kirk Acevedo) is the one that kills Felicity and had his Longbow’s leave William for dead but survives and stays in hiding for years which then makes him go for in the search for Roy. One theory that I have about Roy in why he’s on Lian Yu is because he needed somewhere to be alone and secluded after possibly losing Thea (Willa Holland) to one of their adventures in trying to find one of the lost Lazarus Pits and restore it. Wither this is true or not, it will be revealed soon I have a strong feeling about that!
Now one of the reasons why I have a feeling that Felicity is dead in the flash forward scenes is because there’s a decision that Felicity made when talking to Oliver in prison; in the prison visiting conversation Oliver at first ordered Felicity to do the Witness Protection Program through Argus again but Felicity denied, then Oliver begged Felicity to do so but she still denied the offer. Her reason is because she is tired of running, she wants to be able to fight her problems head on now; she’s trying her best to be strong while Oliver is in prison. And it makes me think because of this conversation that she had with Oliver that it drove to her death because she wanted to prove a point that she could do things herself. I guess we will have to wait and see!
