Black Lightning (S02E05) “The Book of Blood: Chapter One: Requiem”

Okay guys and gals we had another great episode brought to us, we had a tragedy on the series but I will get to that in a little bit; we had a lot of great things that had happened as well and we had a little bit more of a certain character start to rise in this series as well. Lets get to this review!

So in this episode we had a tragic death happen to a character that we all have come to know and love and it’s heart breaking! I think a huge amount of the fandom are still trying to reel their head around the death of Gambi (James Remar) which the way how he goes, it’s heart breaking. Like I’m one of those people that can’t wrap my head around Gambi being gone because he’s always been like Batman, you can never kill that man no matter what you do. But Gambi ended up dying because of him being burned up in a SUV? I mean come on there could’ve been so many other ways the guy could’ve went down. Like I always thought Gambi would go down helping Jefferson/Black Lightning (Cress Williams) out in a fight and gets stabbed and then dies in Jefferson’s arms. But instead he goes out in a fire! But there’s a part of me that thinks that Gambi is going to surprise everyone by showing that he faked his death because he knew Tobias (Marvin Jones III) was on his trail by helping the police to put him away for a year long crime! Wither that ends up being true or not remains to be seen!

Now we had a little Grace (Chantal Thuy) and Anissa (Nafessa Williams) love on this episode and man, I was so hoping that it wouldn’t of been a tease. I think a lot of the fandom for this series is really hoping for Grace and Anissa to hook up and get into that relationship that we all know they will eventually be in. I mean they are both a super powered, and they both obviously have feelings for one and the other. But I also see where Grace is coming from, a person who has been on her own for a very long time and possibly having to hide her super powers which we all know is going to be super strength; and to push Anissa away at least for now is understandable because Grace is not sure if she can trust Anissa after that time that she bailed out that one time in Season 1. And she is also unsure of being able to feel love for someone who is also dishonest about who they are. Maybe if Anissa comes clean to Grace about having powers then she will do the same by not taking the pills and ends up being the super powered couple we know they eventually become in the comics. Wither that will happen or not is hard to say right now but I will definitely keep rooting for them to get together.

I think it’s still a sad way for Jefferson and the family to find out about Gambi, like for Henderson (Damn Gupton) a man whose always been a family friend to have to break the news is hard enough. But to tell Jefferson the man who became an adoptive father to him died in a accident, that is just sad man. Because we the viewers know the truth about what happened that he was run off the road. But I feel like Jefferson is not going to be able to forgive himself for what he possibly could’ve done to prevent Gambi’s death. And I also feel like whatever Jefferson and Anissa do from now on, will be in Gambi’s memory, to be the heroes that he wanted them to be.

I also have to wonder, what will become of Anya (Birgundi Baker) and her baby? Like we saw that Deacon (Rob Morean) ended up dying from some kind of accident and then had a metal substance melt out of him. But what about Anya? I feel like Anissa is going to have to keep both her and the baby away from harm especially if the baby ends up being super powered. But we shall see next week!
