In summer of 1971 in Chicago Don Cornelius is looking to sell his popular local dance show into national syndication. His business partner, George Johnson, who created Ultra Sheen, is eager for Don to make the deal, but also needs Don’s half of the seed money. They also know that they need a top R&B act to appear on the first show in order to seal the syndication deal.
