Episode 15 surrounds the motivated killings of LAPD Police Officers, events which pull the team in all directions. Also, it’s Vaneltines day and each team member has their own ‘special’ plans. Plus, Deacon is having his baby this episode.
The episode starts with a patrol car stopping in front of a blacktop basketball court, to watch kids play and have his lunch. Three guys come out of nowhere and open fire on the officer in the car, before proclaiming “For Javi”. Whilst practicing shooting and chatting about their Valentines day plans they all get the call – Officer shot. They roll out.
They meet Detective Burrows (David Rees Snell) on the scene whose intel is not encouraging. The shooters left no shell casings and witnesses are too afraid to talk. Pete Schwartz, the officer who was shot. Chris (Lina Esco) learns this and mentions she used to work with him in the Street Crime Unit in Lasso Park a couple of years ago. After meeting with a CI, Cortez (Stephanie Sigman) tells Hondo (Shemar Moore) that Officer Schwartz didn’t make it. This case has now graduated to capital murder and has everyone on their toes.
trying to Capture the hvt
After DEA reached out, their best lead is ‘El Tuzo’ – L2D gang leader. He was caught on tape talking about retaliation for one of his lieutenants being arrested. Apparently, Schwarts was one of the arresting officers. El Tuzo stays in the Curling Block in Noble Gardens. It’s a former WWII barracks turned into a housing complex. The LAPD has never entered, deeming it too dangerous.
Hondo decides to come from above and rope down onto his building via chopper. They breach and take El Tuzo into custody. A seemingly uneventful grab changes instantly. With both sides of the street blocked by cars and dumpsters. Crowds of members of the L2D gang begin to show and prevent S.W.A.T. from taking El Tuzo. Molotov Cocktails are thrown and shots are fired at S.W.A.T. but they stay with non-lethal rounds. Hondo blows a hole in a wall giving them access to the adjacent street. Once through they are met by patrol vehicles and a BearCat to extract them and the HVT (High-Value Target).
Burrows and Cortez interrogate El Tuzo but get nothing out of him. He denies killing a cop; says he ain’t dumb enough to kill a cop, that’s a death sentence. During the interrogation, another cop is shot and killed, with the three shooters proclaiming the same thing, “For Javi.” But this time it’s different, the officer shot winged one of the shooters. The other two got away while the injured one fled into an office building, but the office building is Assualt Rifle Technologies, a weapons manufacturers R&D site.
Hondo and the team enter the building and Chris and Luca (Kenny Johnson) have shots fired at them. They go after the third shooter who escaped the building into the back alley. He’s met by patrol cars and officers from both sides. The shooter chooses death over surrender. Officer Mark Walters was the second cop to be shot and killed by that group. What Chris finds concerning is that they were both on the Street Crime Unit. Chris suspected them of foul play but at the time no one would believe her. Cortez now believes her and they go after the two remaining members of that unit.
all about revenge
Deacon goes to pick David Wong (Eddie Shin) up, but we see Wong packing his bags as Deacon arrives. Wong hides his suitcase and Deacon (Jay Harrington) escorts him back to HQ. Chris and Street (Alex Russell) arrive at Thompson’s place to pick him up and find his place trashed. There’s no sign of Thompson (Alimi Ballard) anywhere. After talking to Wong about Lasso Park and what went down, he denies all the allegations. He says that Thompson is a good man and everything they did was above board, but Hondo, Cortez and Chris still have their doubts.
Following up on the serial numbers with the shooter’s weapon, it leads them to a house in Baldwin Hills. Luca and Chris breach and find an old guy lying on the floor in the basement, bleeding from a hit to the head. It turns out the shooter who was killed, Hector Ledesma, is his son, and the other shooters too. They were acting out of revenge for Officer Thompson and his unit for arresting Javi, his son, and their brother. Javi was killed last week in prison during a riot. Thompson got to this location before Chris and Luca and made their father give up his son’s location.
Cortez goes back to her office and finds Wong isn’t there anymore and the pieces fall into place. Wong meets with Thompson who has the other two shooters in the back of his van. His plan is to make it look like they broke into his PI’s office and tried to kill them but they, Thomspon and Wong, killed them first. They both agreed they had to or their past would come to light.
The team see Wong’s phone pinged off a tower which is six blocks from Thompson’s PI office. Hondo and Chris are first through the door and meet Wong, Thompson, and the shooters tied up and gagged. After Chris and Thompson talk we learn that he is the reason she doesn’t date cops. It all ends up with two cop killers and two officers who created those cop killers. A cycle that never should have started in the first place.
In other news, even though Chris and Luca meet it seems like Bonnie wanted Tan (David Lim) to propose to her, they were messing with him. Bonnie actually didn’t want him to propose to her yet. She made some comments about when he should. Also, he got her a pretty big teddy bear for Valentine’s Day and before leaving said, “You know I want to end up with you someday.”
9 months later, the team all waiting in the hospital for the news of how Annie’s birth went. After months of long hours, overtime, extra shifts, and side jobs, Deacon is going to be a father and Chris a godmother. Her name is Victoria Josie Kay, a new daughter of the S.W.A.T. Family.
