Will & Grace (S10E12) “The Pursuit of Happiness”

The group of friends has been on a journey to find out what they really want in life, leading them down a road paved with trials and triumphs. In this episode of Will & Grace they are all tested, but through experience, they will make it through.

Rules are meant to be broken, right?

Will (Eric McCormack) tries to step out of his comfort zone. Taking a chance and bending the rules to get to know one of his co-workers better. It may be out of his character, but he doesn’t want to be stuck in a rut for the rest of his life. He ends up getting more than he bargained for, when the man he’s been eyeing is attached, with a child, but more than willing to cheat. That is where Will draws the line, and it’s good to see him put his foot down.

It comes as no surprise that Jack can be easily manipulated, he is too trusting, and it is one of his downfalls. Thinking that a “chance” meeting with his ex-agents sister, Zusanna (Andrea Martin) is something more, she weaves a glamorous tale for him, reigniting his passion for acting, when really she wanted what he had all along. A secure job and a chance to make a difference. Not only does he lose his job in the process, he loses a tooth. Hopefully, he will be able to learn from this.

Karen (Megan Mullally) has been struggling with the divorce, but has decided to get out there and give the dating world a try. When she get’s stood up, she vows to never love again. When Malcolm (Alec Baldwin) makes an unexpected visit, it tests that theory. Using Grace (Debra Messing) as the “middle man”, they try to reconnect and move past the pain, but how can they get anywhere if Karen won’t forgive him?

Time for a second chance

Everyone seems to need a little push of encouragement, luckily Grace is there to help guide them along. If Karen doesn’t let go of what has happened, the pain will stay with her for the rest of her life. It’s time for her to own up to her part of it, and give Malcolm another try. They are connected in some weird level, and it’s worth doing more with.

In the end, I hope that each of these characters will find their piece of happiness. With their youth fading in the distance, and the clock pushing them forward, they all need to take a leap of faith, and step outside of their safety net.
