Alright guys and gals we had another great episode brought to us tonight, we had a great introduction to the villainous Lex, have we seen the last of Manchester Black? And we have quite a lot to talk about so lets get to this review!
So in this episode we were introduced in a great way to bring in Lex (Jon Cryer) by going back to four years ago when Lex tried making the red sun cover the earth to make Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) human to be just like everyone else. It’s because of this act and the chaos that he caused that forced him to be thrown in prison with a life sentence but even life sentences can be altered but only if the one serving it is dying and the family wishes to see them. So that’s what exactly happened; Lex came for a visit to Lena (Katie McGrath) but like always Lex had to make a dramatic entrance even if being bed ridden on a helicopter it was still a little dramatic. Maybe it was just me but it felt dramatic. I will admit this though, I was not expecting such an amazing performance by Jon Cryer as Lex Luthor; I was one of those people thinking that Jon wouldn’t do such a great performance but like everyone else who had doubts about the actor with the role, I was amazed by it. After seeing Jon Cryer’s performance as Lex Luthor I am in awe by it and I want to see more of his Lex Luthor in future episodes maybe future seasons if they ever consider bringing him back for future seasons.
Truth be told, Jon Cryer’s presentation as Lex Luthor reminds me of a version of Lex Luthor from the animations but also a little bit of the comics with a spice of Jon’s flare thrown into the mix to make his own version of the character a reality which is awesome. I haven’t seen that many performances by Jon Cryer but the performances I have seen of him in television shows has always been a great performance. I think the reason why a lot of people had so many doubts about his performance for this series is because he had that role in Two and a Half Men for so long that a lot of people when they hear his name they immediately think Alan Harper instead of any other role that he’s done in the past. And I will admit I was one of those people for a while but I think I will be thinking of him from now on as his time as Lex Luthor because that’s how much of an astonishing performance he had done. He’s an amazing addition to the line of actors who now has played the character and I can’t wait to see what he does with the role next time because we know that his time on the show is far from done.
Now I have to admit, when we saw that James “Jimmy” Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) was shot the one thing I keep thinking is who shot the guy? But what if it was Teschmacher (Andrea Brooks) who shot James? I mean she did admit to Lena that she’s been working for Lex like for this entire time. Like ever since she came to National City, so this means that when Cat Grant hired Teschmacher as an assistant that she was playing like an idiot for the whole time, she’s been pretending to be Lena’s friend and lab assistant only to report back to Lex. I mean things have literally been crazy for Eve Teschmacher’s whole story like why would she would want to even start working for Lex? Seriously, Teschmacher seems like a very capable person to be able to handle herself, why would she ever need Lex? Is it something like a Mercy situation where she felt like she had a personal connection to him as well as working for him? Or is it something else? I guess we will find out sooner or later maybe even next week’s episode but seriously we need to know who the heck shot James and almost killed him?
And we see that Otis Graves (Robert Baker) did not die back then when we thought that both Graves siblings died back in that one episode of Season 4 earlier on. Which we have to wonder if Otis didn’t die back then, who did die? Does this mean that Mercy might be making a grand return to the series and maybe return to Lex’s employment? Or does this mean that Mercy is maybe dead and that Otis is the lucky sibling that survived? I think we need more answers about what happened to the Graves siblings either that or I’m just forgetting something but I think we do need some answers. I mean it makes us wonder did Ben Lockwood/Agent Liberty (Sam Witwer) contact Lex Luthor while in prison and get Otis and Mercy’s contact information so that they could be employed by Agent Liberty or was Lex pulling the strings for the whole time this whole season? Definitely raises lots of questions.
And one last thing we finally got to meet one of James sister Kelly Olsen (Azie Tesfai) which by the first impression for the character I think I like her already. I’m hoping that we can see more of the character; maybe even get employed by the D.E.O. as their personal psychiatrist? There could always be possibilities there people, but we all hope that we will see her again in maybe future episodes and future seasons!
