Hello, Riverdale fans! It’s time for my review of the latest episode entitled ‘The Master’.
The farm is open
The episode starts off with the Serpents doing a night raid on the school. It’s actually a test for their deputy training. Needless to say, they don’t do very well. They try again. Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Veronica (Camilla Mendes) have some girl talk, with Betty comforting Veronica, who is still upset about her parents impending divorce. The farm announces an open house. Betty decides to go check things out.
Meanwhile, Jughead (Cole Sprouse) and Gladys (Gina Gershon) continue to be at odds with each other. She throws out thinly veiled threats that make Jughead more determined to stop her. At Farm HQ (the old Sisters of Quiet Mercy Institution), Kevin (Casey Cott) is running the farm tour. Naturally, Betty is curious about everything. She runs into Alice (Madchen Amick) who has nothing to say to her. Betty ends up having an interview with Evelyn (Zoe De Grand Maison). It’s so awkward and strange.
lets meet the creator
The Lodge prison is finally ready to open, but Hiram (Mark Consuelos) doesn’t invite Hermione (Marisol Nichols) to the opening ceremony. Now Hermoine begins to fear for her life. Without Hiram’s protection, who knows what will happen to her? Jughead is hanging out at Archie’s (K.J Apa) house. Archie gets a call from his old cellmate, Mad Dog (Eli Goree). He tells Archie that they’re planning on transferring all the prisoners over to the new prison. Veronica and Archie meet with the Governor and blackmail him into getting Mad Dog and the others released.
Betty needs more information about the farm. She recruits Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) to infiltrate the farm on her behalf. Cheryl agrees. Later on, she literally feeds Evelyn a sob story and gets an interview. Jughead is out trying to get more information about the drug trade. He and the Serpents finally get a lead and begin to pursue it.
Cheryl meets with Edgar Evernever (Chad Michael Murray). Betty is listening via a hidden microphone. Cheryl talks about her brother. Edgar shows her a mysterious room, and Cheryl cuts off the connection to Betty. Mad Dog and the others are released from prison. Archie offers up his gym as a refuge for them. Jughead and the Serpents are cracking a few skulls. However, on their last ‘raid’, the get busted by the police. FP (Skeet Ulrich) is furious. He demands that Jughead stand down.
Elio (Julian Haig) shows up at Archie’s gym, looking for recruits. Archie kicks him out. Veronica tries one last attempt to get her parents back on track. She suggests marriage counseling. Both her parents refuse. Mad Dog expresses concern over the apartment complex where his family is living. Apparently, the Gargoyles had moved in and were cooking drugs there. A package arrives for Hermione at the mayor’s office. It’s dead fish. Hermione freaks out.
Archie and Jughead hatch a plan to oust the Gargoyles from the building and hopefully destroy the drug trade. Cheryl talks with Edgar again. Afterward, she goes back to Betty and quits being her spy. She wants to join the farm. The Serpents start their raid. There are bloodshed and fights. Also some gunshots. They find Kurtz, who proceeds to jump out the window with Jughead. Jughead gets badly hurt and sends the others to catch up with Kurtz who had run off.
the game’s not over yet
When Veronica talks to her father, she eventually reveals that she had sent the dead fish to her mother. She wanted him to protect her mother. Hiram tells Veronica that he had gotten their marriage annulled by the priest, but that Veronica and her mother were still under his protection. Veronica is upset but knows that there is nothing she can do about it. Her parent’s marriage was officially over.
Jughead confronts his mother again. More threats. Betty sneaks back into Farm HQ and manages to steal the interview tapes from her mother and Cheryl. At Archie’s gym, Mad Dog has decided to take Elio’s offer. Archie warns him to be careful and lets him go. Betty sits down with her mother, who tells Betty that she sees her deceased brother Chuck. Cheryl also reports seeing Jason and talking to him.
Archie receives a new Quest card, and a cup filled with teeth. The episode ends with FP finding the dead body of one of Archie’s cellmates. The Gargoyle King strikes again. The game is not over yet.
Well, we finally get to know some of the Farm’s secrets. I am seriously wondering how they manage the whole ‘conjuring up the dead’ thing. Hopefully, we will find out in the next episode. I feel like Jughead is getting in over his head. He should have listened to FP when he told him to back down. Now there’s another death, and it could have been prevented if Jughead and the others hadn’t gone on the offensive. I think Veronica’s parents getting a divorce is a good thing. Maybe now Hermione can get away from the mob business and go legit. Who knows?
Betty really has to stop obsessing so much over the Farm. I feel like Betty’s mental state is becoming more fragile and it’s only a matter of time before she snaps. Guess the only thing we can do is see what happens next.
I give this episode a 7/10.
