Arrow (S07E21) “Living Proof”

Alright guys and gals we had a great episode brought to us tonight and it was a really good one! Oliver is trapped and seeing an old friend, the team works on getting Oliver out before the building collapses. We have that and more and a theory that we will talk about in a little bit so lets get to this review!

So in this episode, we saw the aftermath of what happened after Emiko (Sea Shimooka) detonated that building on top of Team Arrow. But as Oliver (Stephen Amell) was trapped in the room that Emiko trapped him in. His mind chose to play another game with Oliver to reveal a way of guidance through his best friend Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell) as most of you know Tommy died way back in season 1 when a building collapsed on top of him and got impaled. Which is why it was Oliver’s mind that was playing the kind of game to have him imagine Tommy as a guide to tell him today is not his day to die but to also help him try to end the cycle of family violence. But it was good to see Tommy even if he was a hallucination/dream from Oliver blacking out.

While under the dream or whatever it might have been Tommy showed Oliver the deep, dark truth that he was even trying to deny to the image of Tommy that Oliver’s family and even Tommy’s family had a cycle that is never ending. Which Oliver even used Tommy as an example for never ending cycles that lead to his death which I kinda saw as a cheap shot because I mean Tommy was actually trying to save the love of his life which was Laurel. So in a way Tommy did die heroically in all of the fans eyes. But Tommy did do one favor to Oliver by showing him a possible future that could happen which its really interesting that they showed this because it ties into the comics of the Rebirth comics that just ended this year for Green Arrow Comics. In the possible future moment, Oliver is shown that if he continues the way he has been, he will be the one who is not only responsible for the death of Emiko but the death of Diggle (David Ramsey), Diana/Black Canary (Juliana Harkavy), Rene (Rick Gonzalez), and even Roy (Colton Haynes) that they all will die because of him and his vendetta.

Now in the comics Oliver had a nightmare that he was the cause of killing everyone that he ever loved including the one he was currently dating at the time and they all were killed by his arrows placed in a never ending circle. The circle just went into a never ending circle following more and more bodies of people that Oliver either saved or tried to save, and in the dream sequence he was told by a villain he would be the cause of all the deaths of all the people he cares about. Oliver then woke up from the nightmare, but like I said this was from the comics.

Meanwhile, the team had their own problems while trying to find Oliver and were working on trying to get to him before the building went up in flames and they all die but luckily they were able to finally able to get to him. But that’s not all, Emiko chose to make a surprise visit to Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) and Alena (Kacey Rohl) where Emiko was there to kill Felicity and Alena was going to be collateral damage but when Emiko heard Felicity say that she’s pregnant, her decision was changed in hopes that she will be able to do something even worse than kill Felicity but to make Felicity and Oliver’s child live without a father.

I did like that for the episode when they had Oliver still trapped under the rubble they had the music that played when Tommy had died in season 1, so having that music play in a emotional scene of the episode was a real good move and I absolutely loved that piece of music that Blake Neely composed and brought back to all of us the fans especially since this might be the last goodbye that Oliver gets to say to Tommy. I absolutely loved it! Blake Neely has always been a music genius when it comes to the Arrowverse music and I’m so happy that he brought this back.

Now that Oliver and the team are being blamed for the massacre of the SCPD, what will happen next? Especially with Emiko wondering around in one of Oliver’s old Green Arrow suits and has a lot of his arrows. What will happen next when it comes to the Season Finale? We will find out soon!
