The series is about what the future holds for a family from today. Particularly the Lyons in the present day.
Stephen is married to Celeste. They have a daughter, Bethany, who usually appears behind a virtual reality emoji face, and is considering becoming trans, but not in the way that you might think.
Stephen’s brother Daniel is a housing officer, which means he has to deal with Ukrainian refugees in a container village in Manchester. He’s gay and married but interested in Viktor, a charming asylum seeker. Their sister Rosie is in a wheelchair and has a date with a man who keeps a robot called Keith in the cupboard. The other sister Edith is overseas, working with refugees. The clan is ruled over by Muriel, whose role is to make her children feel guilty and to be slightly out of touch.
New on BBC One.
