The show is inspired by the 1986 series from comic legends Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.
Damon Lindelof, the creator, opted to “remix” Alan Moore’s graphic novel with a new premise that reflects America as it is today in all of its fractured, authoritarian ‘glory’. The series is more of a direct sequel to the comics.
Everything that happened in the comics is treated as canon here, but the world has moved on since 1985. The impact made by Watchmen stalwarts like Doctor Manhattan and Rorschach is still felt in ways that become more and more apparent as the season progresses, but new characters like Sister Night and Looking Glass take centre stage here for the most part.
New on HBO.
