Alright ladies and gentleman we had actually a much better episode this time around! We have a lot to talk about so I say we should get to this review!
So with this episode the team had to find a way to get Barry/The Flash/ Dark Flash (Grant Gustin) out of the influence of Ramsey/Bloodwork (Sendhil Ramamurthy) which I kind of figured they would have to find a way to save him because the next episode is the crossover.
Honestly, I feel like this is the only way the writers were able to make a version of the comic story of when Barry was turned into Black Flash and then brought back to normal. Like I feel this was that chance for them to do a version of that and in a way it did work but I feel like the only reason why they called him Dark Flash in the episode was so people wouldn’t get confused in there being more than one Black Flash. Even though people who have read the comics know there’s always more than one version of Black Flash.
Even though I didn’t like the first part of this two parter, I did enjoy this part of the episode and it did show promise in so many levels for the future of this season. Even though the season has literally been full on Halloween every episode and it’s amazing! With this being the episode just before Crisis it had a lot on its plate to bring the hype up to ten million!
And we finally got the comic version of Bloodwork shown in this episode, literally seeing Ramsey grow into the behemoth monster that he was transformed into was amazing. Literally having that morph though I’m sure took a lot of money to do so to animate and 3D model. But it was worth it to see the comic version of the villain finally come to life. I’m sure animating the skull to talk cost a shiny bit too. It ain’t easy animating all of that, especially when you have to count for muscle movement, mouth opening and closing, making the mouth sound out the words that have to be spoken through voice over. It becomes stressful if you don’t know what you’re doing or if you miss one step to where you have to start over from the beginning. I should know I was an animation student in college.
Even though we might not see that monstrous behemoth of Bloodwork again until the season finale it was good seeing him in this episode before Crisis.
And given that it’s crossover next week we had the same sneak peek in all the episodes of Batwoman, Supergirl, and now in Flash it’s probably the only sneak peek we will only get until next week!
