I don’t even know where to begin. Maybe first by saying CAPTAIN JACK HARKNESS. That’s really all that needs to be said. Maybe not all, but for a lot of us it’d have been enough.
This week was nutty. Not only did we have the return of my very favorite Doctor Who character of ALL time (aside from the actual Doctor) Captain Jack (John Barrowman), we had the insane twist of a second Doctor. Jo Martin stole the show, yes even from the over-the-top loveliness that is John Barrowman, when she transformed from sweet Ruth into a badass version of The Doctor.
Questions, So Many Questions
After last week’s sweet historical visitation of Nikola Tesla, this week came out swinging. With twists and turns and questions left and right. Why is Jack back? Did we miss him? (YES DEAR GOD YES.) Who is this “other” Doctor? Either she’s a later version that doesn’t recognize 13, or more likely, she’s a form that 13 has forgotten.
Do I find it slightly gross that the first black Doctor would be the one to be forgotten? I’m trying not to get wrapped up in that but I will admit I find it irritating. I suppose I’m just thankful that we even have a PoC Doctor for now.
How could 13 have just plain forgotten a form? I mean we know The Doctor CHOSE to forget the War Doctor. But this felt very very different. Ruth/Doctor is one who’s being hunted? A fugitive that USES WEAPONS. Yes, I realize that today’s post uses a lot of caps lock and shouting but seriously. With a new Doctor and Captain Jack on my screen, how could I not be shouting?
Who cares. I mean seriously. Forgive me if that sounds terrible. The whole Judoon hunting a fugitive mystery was fun, but frankly, with what we’re left with, all we’ll remember are Jack and Ruth. Who is last Cyberman? (see! even more questions) What could they want that’s so dangerous Jack had to warn The Doctor about it?
My prayer right now is twofold. Please please let Ruth/Doctor come back. And please, for the love of all that’s holy, bring back Captain Jack and let us see him interact with 13.
