Good Girls continues to push a female empowering agenda as each episode progresses. Our favorite criminal moms (Retta, Christina Hendricks, Mae Whitman) haven’t completely mastered high crimes, but, are quickly finding their strengths. One thing that might stop them is Rio’s (Manny Montana) resurrection. Ruby, Beth and Annie might have a harder time than they thought claiming their position.
(WARNING: SPOILER ALERT!)
Ruby and Stan (Reno Wilson) are literally robbing Peter to pay Paul in order to keep up with the accumulating bills and barely there income. They’re the first out of the group to be notified of Agent Turner’s (James Lesure) death. As a result, Stan and Ruby embark on a shopping trip to purchase a funeral suit. While at the store, an already frustrated Ruby doesn’t hold back with the sales rep for his overt racism. Stan’s decision to go back and get the suit leads to an eruption between him and Ruby. To some degree, Stan wants to stay in disguise, but, Ruby wants to deal with reality. Will Ruby tell it all or will the lies win?
At the beginning of the episode, Annie is celebrating with Ben, Greg and Nancy, (Isaiah Stannard, Zach Gilford, Sally Pressman ) only to be ambushed into seeing a therapist. Greg and Nancy’s therapist commented that Annie is “broken and a little bit lost.” In typical Annie fashion, she goes to confront the wrong therapist( Rob Heaps). After talking with Ben, Annie realized that she needs someone other than her son to help with her problems, so she goes back to Dr. Cohen— the therapist she wrongly confronted. From the looks of things, Dr. Cohen will be around for a little bit. Will Annie have a new love interest? Can he be trusted?
Since Turner is no longer in the picture, business can resume, but ,first Beth has to contend with an unwanted visitor…her mother-in-law, (Jessica Walter). Judith and Beth don’t have a great relationship, however, they are not that different. Both women try to assert their control over the Boland household, but, Beth will not be outdone. Judith has no idea that Beth is now a gangster. Beth decides to hire an ex-con to launder their money, but, he tries to skip out on the deal. Being the boss she wants to be, Beth goes to his employer and threatens to report him to his parole officer. Not wanting to go back to jail, the ex-con unwillingly returns the cash.
Can we talk about Rhea ghosting Beth ever since Rio came home? Does Rhea (Jackie Cruz) know that Beth shot Rio and befriended her out of guilt?
Rhea finally calls Beth, so the two make plans to meet for drinks, Beth was in for the shock of her life when she came face-to-face with Rio at the bar. Yes..you read correct. Rio is alive and things are about to get CRAZY! The chemistry between them is palpable. This ending had me wondering… what happened to Rhea?
