Black Lightning(S03E16) “The Book of War: Chapter Three: Liberation”

Alright my readers we had a big season finale brought to us tonight. We had character deaths, justice finally brought to a certain character, and a lovable character that’s condition is at the moment unknown. So let’s get to this review!

So in this episode which is also the season finale we had a few character deaths happen throughout the episode. One of those characters is Henderson (Damon Gupton) we have been able to see Henderson go from being a detective, to chief of police, and then to resistance leader. I understand that the actor wanted to leave the show but this death, it hit me hard.

I haven’t cried to a tv series characters death until now. Henderson was one of those characters that you came to love after episode 2 of season 1. But now that Henderson’s end has come I really hope they bring someone in that will work well with Jefferson/Black Lightning (Cress Williams) but I suppose we will see soon by season 4.

The final battle between Black Lightning and Gravedigger (Wayne Brady) happened and it was shockingly amazing. I think Gravedigger has proven that he is a more harder villain to defeat than Tobias Whale (Marvin Jones III) I mean Gravedigger was family to the Pierce family but family doesn’t mean everything. And the final battle sure did reveal that. But we did see that Gravedigger did survive the explosion so there’s a chance he might return sooner or later.

Another death that happened in this episode was Dr. Jace (Jennifer Riker) even though I figured her death would eventually happen. I didn’t think it would happen this soon, and in her own way she was working on starting a redemption arc but instead they had to just shoot her down. I didn’t like Dr. Jace all that much but she did have great ideas. We also had Jamillah Olsen (Adetinpo Thomas) was the other death. She was gunned down by the Markovians, which I felt was a death she didn’t deserve. Olsen could’ve become a better reporter after the incident but I guess they won’t be doing that.

And we finally have the ASA disbanded, it took so long but it finally happened. The ASA was always trying to do horrible things and with it disbanded it means that new organizations can even come in to monitor in the shadows. Which organization do you think will monitor Freeland next?

And last but not least, our lovable Grace (Chantal Thuy) was put into a coma and it looks like her evolution is continuing. Only thing about the coma is Grace could be out for a long time and she might be going somewhere else for health care. Question is, when Grace wakes up will she look like her comic counterpart? Or will it just be another step closer to becoming that counterpart? With Season 4 coming to us this Fall we will find out soon.

Black Lightning Season 4 will air in the Fall 2020, until then my readers, have a good spring and summer!
