RuPaul’s Drag Race (S12E02) “You Don’t Know Me”

on

Here we are again for premiere number 2 of RuPaul’s Drag Race! We finally get to meet the second batch of Queens, though I must admit, it was very hard to watch at points. As many of you noticed at the beginning of the episode a statement appeared on the screen. For the first time in Drag Race herstory, a Queen has been disqualified for their actions outside of the competition. Now if you recall Willam was also disqualified, but his circumstances were far different. While Willam was just getting some nookie from his husband, Sherry Pie went out of her way to deceive and harm multiple people, putting their careers on the line. Sherry has since released an apology, but it was too little too late. Watching this season knowing she is disqualified will be difficult, especially as she’s seemed to received a good edit. We will have to see how that changes as the competition progresses.

Alright, enough of the sad stuff. This group feels like it didn’t have as many stand outs as the first, but there were certainly a few. Namely; Rock M Sakura, an anime Queen who has honest humour on her side; Jan, a multi talented Queen who I can see going far; and finally Aiden Zane, this seasons oddball. Overall it seems to be a fairly well rounded cast, with no obvious bottom contestants. We will have to wait and see how things will shake out over the coming weeks. Drag Race has a way of surprising us.

This episode mirrored the first pretty well, with the same mini challenge and almost the same maxi challenge. I personally liked last weeks song a bit more, as I found it catchier, which is odd as I usually prefer musicals. Once again no one went home, and obviously it was hard to watch Sherry be in the top. I was just happy she didn’t win the lip sync, but I have a feeling that won’t be the case as the season continues. We will have to wait and see what production does with the edit going forward. It’s sad that this season will be tainted, but I’m glad it is still being aired so we can appreciate the other Queens like they deserve to be.
