This episode was centered around Grace, Ben and their new baby, Eden. After Grace gets a calling leading them to a river, she’s lead to Adrian, who had been in hiding. As Ben is interrogating the ex-leader of the believer cult, Grace goes into labour. They leave Adrian, and rush to the hospital. The doctors explain that since Grace is only 29 weeks pregnant, the two procedures they could perform were both high-risk. One would be more dangerous for Grace, the other for the baby. They add that although there is a safer procedure, they’re unable to contact the doctor who can perform it. Grace tells Ben that if he has to choose between her and the baby, she wanted him to choose the baby. Shortly after that, Grace’s condition began to decline and Ben chose her over the baby. Meanwhile, Adrian was still by the river, and a calling lead him to save a drowning man. Turns out, the man that Adrian saved was the doctor who could perform the safer procedure. Grace and the baby both survived, although Ben was left feeling guilty about not choosing what Grace wanted.
Cal and Olive spent some time together in this episode, as they decided to make a guidebook for when their little sister grew up. They soon got a call from Ben, and they rushed to the hospital to be with Grace. They then spent the remainder of the episode with their parents, before meeting Eden.
Michaela and Jared’s story over the past two seasons has been one of the most interesting to follow, as it took a darker turn in recent episodes. This episode, after Jared tried to convince Michaela that he had saved her, he handed her a note, which lead to her going to a park. The note had said ‘our place,’ which clearly meant something to the two of them. As Michaela sat on a bench with ‘M+J’ carved onto it, we saw a flashback of Jared’s proposal. At the same place, he got Olive and Cal to hold a boombox playing ‘their song,’ as her whole family watched. The pair seemed genuinely happy, and it shone a new light on their past together. Jared soon found Michaela at the park, and revealed that he was undercover to protect her. Their Captain had also been in on Jared’s plan, so the three of them worked together to take down the X’ers. Jared soon discovered that the X’ers had kidnapped Zeke, and to contact Michaela he played their song through the jukebox in the X’er bar. Michaela understood him, as they seem to share a connection much deeper than the mythical one that many other characters share. In the end, Jared and Michaela took down most of the X’ers, which made Tamara end her relationship with Jared. Zeke and Jared then cleared the air, although it seems like this won’t be the end of the love triangle.
