9-1-1 (S03E17) “Powerless”

This was an interesting episode…

I guess I can say “I told you so”. The context isn’t exactly the right one but, once again, I was right about most of this episode. It kind of bums me a bit. I’m never really surprised. I can see things coming miles away… However, that last part of the episode I was NOT expecting.

911 recap - 9-1-1 (S03E17) "Powerless"

As I said in the beginning, this episode was interesting. Interesting because it was a mix of everything they usually do – some interesting cases, following one or two characters and have a big story/cliff-hanger. I guess I’ll start with the easiest thing – the cases they responded to.

The first one was of a child trapped in a runaway hot air balloon. That kind of left me afraid of doing that. Ride in a hot air balloon has been on my bucket list for a while but, after this episode… I have my doubts. The second call they responded to was a power outage caused by a woman after she steals a tree trimmer truck. That last one just annoyed the heck out of me. People sometimes really don’t think about the consequences. I mean, her intentions were good, to ‘save the trees’, but then she just acted really selfishly and it really annoyed me.

With those cases out of the way, we have to talk about the two main story-lines of this episode – Athena and Hen. Both stories that I predicted in my last post, I might add. I was expecting Athena’s story. Her following up on the serial rapist. However, I did think that this story would last the last two episodes. Instead, they raped it up in this one. And I was scared.

When it got close to the end, after she tracks him to a storage facility and Athena and the rapist have that big fight with both Maddie and the 118 listening I was really afraid Athena wouldn’t come back next season. It would be a big shock! All this time I’ve been worrying about Michael dying (and I’m pretty sure it will happen eventually) that we didn’t even think someone else might die. Luckily, everything ended fine and not only Athena was ‘okay’ but she also caught the serial rapist.

As for Hen’s story, it was exactly what I said in my last post. Karen starts suspecting that Hen’s having an affair after finding a suspicious phone number and after Hen lies to her but I knew. I knew this was about the doctor thing and how Hen felt when she was in surgery and helped the doctors. Well, in the end she tells Karen, Chimney and Maddie about what’s really going on and how she’s thinking about going to medical school. Now, I just wonder if she’ll leave the show or if we will still follow her journey on becoming a doctor. I hope the latter because I love Hen.

And well, the episode ends with a train derailment and none other than Abby calling 911 about the accident. That I was not expecting. I even forgot that this episode was going to have Abby. But I was happy to see her! I’m really curious to see where this is going to go. Not only with her character (and Buck) but also with all the other characters. There’s still so much on the line! I’m sure it’s going to be an epic season finale! Can’t wait!

In the meantime, let us know what you thought of the episode and I’ll catch you up on the next one (the season finale) – Monday, May 11 at 8/7c on FOX.
